How To Create a Lean Strategic Plan

Are you ready to plan your best year yet? Great, we are too. Let's do this!

It's that time of the year. A time for fresh beginnings and new perspectives. A time when we set resolutions and goals to reach new heights.

It's also that time of the year when it can feel a bit overwhelming to jump back into planning mode. For businesses and organizations, planning for success is ESSENTIAL to your growth in the year ahead.

I find it so fascinating that most businesses say that having a strategic plan and executing on it successfully will be critical to maintaining competitiveness, yet they don't invest the time and resources in creating one.

Now, why is that?

Well, now more than ever, plans change. The only constant we can count on these days is change. I get it. Quite honestly, it's a little exhausting.

But, it doesn't have to be. You need a plan to provide your organization with the well deserved direction it needs to thrive. So don't let the process of creating a strategic plan stump you.

You might be thinking: "We are in a good spot and doing well, do we really need a strategic plan anyway?"

The answer is YES! And I'll tell you why. When we have a plan, we set goals. And when we set goals, our brain activates neurons and strengthens bonds to create the structure you need to produce the behaviors to execute those goals. It increases the likelihood that you will reach those goals just by setting them in the first place.

When we don't have a plan, it feels like we're in a giant ball pit just trying to catch one throw but more often than not, missing the catch every time.

Your team and your organization deserve to be the winning team. That's what an effective strategic plan allows you to do.

If you are still weary of investing the time, I totally get it. And I'm here to help. I've created an easy step by step Lean Strategic Planning Process to help you!

Here is a snapshot of the Lean Strategic Planning Process:

First, make sure you do all of the prep work before you begin putting your strategic plan together. I use 4 key tools to do this prep work: Analyze Performance (revenue + impact), Research Trends, Assess Operations, and Pulse Check Org. Culture.

And then, follow these steps:

Step 1: Set Your Vision for the Year

Step 2: Own Your Values

Step 3: Find a Data Informed North Star

Step 4: Create Tangible Goals + Action Steps

Step 5: Know You KPI's

If you're curious to get more insight on this process, check out my free Lean Strategic Planning workshop this Friday at 2 pm ET. It's packed with perks too! Including this free worksheet to kickstart your brainstorming.

Happy planning and here's to your best year yet!
